3 beeps after installing PCI VGA video card?

I want to run a second monitor of my desktop PC, which currently only has one VGA out port.
So I installed a PCI expansion card with a second VGA out into one of the PCI slots.
I then connected my primary monitor to the existing VGA port and the second the the newly installed card.
After powering on the PC, I get three post beeps and nothing on either screen.
I know 3 beeps indicates a video problem but what have I done wrong?
yes I grounded myself using an anti static wrist strap.
The originial VGA port is built into the motherboard.

have you made sure they are both in properly, and was you anti static free when you fitted the new one. Is the old vga port built into the motherboard or is it a card?
