I am not a heavy gamer, just playing need for speed and dirt 2 maybe. Which of the 2 cards is better? Just make sure to look at the specs of both carefully.
Thanks,

You should go with PCI 9500gt at least.8400gs is very slow card for Dirt 2 even it is a PCI-E and 9400gt can handle it on medium settings and low resolutions.9400gt PCI is better than 8400gs but 9500gt is needed at least.

9400GT
8400GS would only just meet recommended.
Personally I’d go with the 9400GT. Before purchasing search around a little more, I was able to find a large amount of cheaper video cards but with a higher PSU requirement.
"I am not a heavy gamer" Then why worry about which card you get?
"just playing need for speed and dirt 2 maybe" Then you’ll need a much more powerful card then these 2.
"Just make sure to look at the specs of both carefully" Shouldn’t that be something you should do instead of coming here asking for our help and the telling us to read what you should had read in the first place
for Dirt 2, you need NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or higher. So both will play it fine (just not on a high resoloution)
Spec wise, the 9400GT has a slower processor, but double the memory and faster memory speeds. Also its the later model so will support more games.
My advice is to just stick to your budget… and upgrade to PCI-E when you can haha
I would go with the 9400gt….Its 128 bit compared to the 8400gs which is only 64bit…The 8400gs actually has double the stream processors than the 9400gt…But with only having a 64bit data bus the 9400gt would still be a the faster card as it also has a lot higher core, shader and memory clocks…Memory is almost double….
Long story short, the 9400gt is a better card but will still have problems playing the games you have listed…Probably low to maybe medium settings with a very low resolution….The PCI interface is very very slow compared to PCIe interface………
